BOONTON TOWNSHIP Alfred Leonard Alfred Joseph Leonard, 95, died April 18, at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, N.C. Born and raised in Rockaway Borough, he graduated from Rockaway High School. While attending the University of Michi- gan, Leonard enlisted to serve sev- eral years on the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise. He was proud of his ship and his shipmates, and would often remind folks that the Enterprisewas themost decorated ship of World War II. In 1951, Leonard would settle with his family in Boonton where he lived for the next 30 years.
He worked the majority of his life as a salesman of municipal equipment. He was also very active in Boonton Twp. activities and held positions as health inspector, building inspector, vol- unteer fireman, police commis- sioner and town councilman. He alsoworked tirelessly, often armed with only a pick and shovel, to build a park next to the Rockaway Valley School. Leonard Park was named in his honor.
In 1981, he chose the mountains of North Carolina to spend his retirement years. Leonard is survived by his daughter, Janie Leonard Spring and her husband, Donald, of The Woodlands, Texas; his two sons, Garry and Gerry Leonard, of Kansas City, sister-in-law, Edythe Carlyon of Summerfield, nephew, Robert, and Ann Marie Cuozzo, of Mt. Arlington; two nieces, Audrey, and Joe Meagher, of Summerfield, and Barbara, and James Roe, of Six Mile, S.C.; many nieces, nephews and friends; and most notably Barbara Thompson of Flat whowas selfless in her care and compassion for Al and his family for so many years. He was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude, in 1980; his wife, Rose, in 2006; and his parents, Antonio and Immaculata (Odierno) Leonard. Funeral services were held at Whitham-Kanapaux Funeral Home in Rockaway followed by interment at LocustHill Cemetery in Dover.

DENVILLE Angela Provenzano Angela Provenzano died at CareOne atMorris in Parsippany, April 7. She was 95. Born on April 22, 1915 in Pittston, she lived in Bloom- field for 31 years before moving to Denville 34 years ago.
Provenzano was a registered nurse, graduating from Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse at Colum- bus Hospital in Newark for many years before retiring in 1972. Provenzano is survived by her loving daughter, Joan B. Loftus and her husband, William, of Denville; her dear granddaughter, Jennifer of NewYork City; and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Salvatore J.
Provenzano in 1977 along with five brother and two sisters. Arrangements were conducted through the NormanDeanHome for Services in Denville. Mass was offered at St. R.C. Church in Denville followed by internment at Immaculate Con- ception Cemetery inUpperMont- clair.

Clarence Haverly Jr. Clarence Adam Haverly known as Larry, founder and pres- ident ofHaverly Systems, and known worldwide in the Opera- tions Research industry, diedApril 15 at home in Denville surround- ed by family and friends. He was 86. Born in Columbus Ohio, he grew up during the Great Depres- sion. He graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in chem- ical engineering, and later with a Masters in Business Administra- tion.
He served in the Navy during WorldWar II as a radar specialist. After the war he worked atMerck Pharmaceuticals in Rahway, where he participated in bringing Cortisone and Vitamin B-12 to market. After that he worked at Esso Petroleum, and later Esso Research (now Exxon). He left Esso in 1962 to start his own com- pany Haverly Systems Inc. which was founded with his creating the first ever computer modeling lan- guage for developing Linear Pro- gramming (LP) models, used to optimize industrial processes.
Techniques he pioneered are still in frequent use. His company became successful and known worldwide in its field and contin- ues today with offices in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. It headquarters inDenville. The company has also received the Ronald Reagan for Excellence in export- ing. While at Merck he was a mem- ber of the flying club, and there met Angela Haverly (Filios), and they married in 1956.
For their wedding and honeymoon, they together flew a small Cessna plane from N.J. to Massachusetts, and then from there to the Grand Canyon and back. Larry was a successful manag- er in Denville Little League base- ball, leading the Denville All-Star team to its then best ever statewide finish. He was also active in politics and was president of the Taxpay- ers Political Action Committee of N.J. During this time he led many rallies in Trenton to promote lim- ited government and reduced tax- ation.
Larry is survived by wife, Angela Haverly of Denville; his sister Jean Haverly of Carroll, Ohio; friend Phyllis DiAngelo of Indianapolis, and son, Victor; and granddaughters Olivia and Angela Haverly, of Ventura, Calif. Arrangements were conducted by the Norman Dean Funeral Home in Denville. Casimer Vance Casimer Vance, 95, died April 17, in Denville. Vancewas born inMidland, Pa. He was a proud graduate of the University ofNotreDame, Class of 1938.
In 1940, he married Elizabeth (Suplina) Vance, and set- tled in Brooklyn, N.Y., where they raised their family. After retiring in 1981, Cance and Betty moved to Whiting, where they lived until 1999. For the last 12 years, they resided at Franciscan Oaks in Denville. Vance is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his children, Gail, Maryann, and John; his grandchil- dren, Jocelyn, Suzanne, Michael, Megan, and Sean; great-grandchil- dren, Matthew, Julia, Caroline, Catherine, Alison, Camryn, and Caelin; and his brother, Walter. Acosta was born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras onDec. 13, 1925, the second youngest of 11 children. Her parents, Nicholas and Elena Gabrie, immigrated to Honduras from Palestine. A groundbreaking clinical study of polio in Honduras brought Dr. Acosta recognition and an invita- tion to continue her training at Hospital in Philadel- phia in 1956.
She further trained in pediatrics at in Boston, as well as hospitals in New York City. By 1969, she was among the early physicians to establish a pediatrics practice in Denville, retiring in 1998. Dr. Acosta was also a talented gardener, who spent many hours planting andmaintaining a garden at her home in Mountain Lakes. Dr.
Acosta is survived by her husband of 51 years, Juan J. Acos- ta, of Mt. Lakes; her three chil- dren, Alexandra Acosta (James Losey) of Chevy Chase, Juan M. Acosta (Michelle Castro) of Sacramento, LorraineAcos- ta (WilliamBest) ofMontclair; her sister, Estrella Garcia of Emerson; and five grandchildren, Colin and Julia Losey, Isabella Acosta, and Andrew and Alexander Best.
